Our client is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead forecasting initiatives in the energy sector. This role involves developing advanced predictive models, optimizing decision-making in power markets, and mentoring a talented team. Data Scientist responsibilities:  
  • Lead and mentor a team – Develop a high-performing forecasting team, provide technical guidance, and foster professional growth.
  • Develop forecasting models – Design and refine probabilistic models to improve market predictions and decision-making.
  • Ensure model accuracy – Maintain high standards for forecast reliability, calibration, and continuous improvement.
  • Integrate scalable solutions – Work with MLOps and DevOps teams to deploy and manage machine learning models in production.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders – Partner with trading, operations, and commercial teams to align forecasts with business strategies.
  • Enhance data-driven insights – Analyze market trends, incorporate new data sources, and refine methodologies for better predictions.
  • Drive research and innovation – Explore cutting-edge forecasting techniques and collaborate with academic and industry partners.
  • Manage risk and quality control – Implement validation processes to monitor and mitigate forecasting errors.
Data Scientist requirements:  
  • Expertise in forecasting and machine learning – Strong background in probabilistic modeling, time series analysis, and predictive analytics.
  • Power market knowledge – Understanding of grid operations, supply-demand dynamics, and pricing mechanisms.
  • Technical leadership experience – Proven ability to lead teams and drive technical excellence.
  • Proficiency in Python and data science tools – Skilled in libraries like Pandas, NumPy, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn.
  • Experience in large-scale model deployment – Knowledge of MLOps, DevOps, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Effective communication skills – Ability to explain complex statistical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset – Ability to identify predictive signals and continuously improve forecasting methodologies.
  • Location flexibility – Based in (or willing to relocate to) Austin, TX, with at least two days in the office.
  • Experience in ERCOT market forecasting, nodal pricing, and settlement. (Advantageous)
  • Familiarity with US ISOs (PJM, MISO, CAISO, SPP). (Advantageous)
  • Background in weather impact analysis on energy markets. (Advantageous)
