Our client is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead forecasting initiatives in the energy sector. This role involves developing advanced predictive models and optimizing decision-making in power markets. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in data science, power markets, and scalable model deployment.

Data Scientist responsibilities:  
  • Develop & Optimize Forecasting Models – Build machine learning models for price forecasting, real-time market predictions, and scenario analysis to improve decision-making.
  • Enhance Energy Storage Optimization – Design and maintain optimization models for energy storage and solar storage systems to maximize operational efficiency across different ISOs.
  • Analyze & Mitigate Congestion Risks – Create models to forecast grid congestion, refine bidding strategies, and improve asset dispatch under constrained conditions.
  • Support Strategic & Business Development Efforts – Provide data-driven insights, develop asset performance back testing tools, and collaborate on client materials.
  • Integrate & Deploy Scalable Solutions – Work alongside Software Engineering and DevOps teams to implement production-ready forecasting and optimization models.
  • Advance Research & Innovation – Experiment with novel approaches to enhance forecasting accuracy, congestion management, and portfolio optimization.
  • Ensure Model Performance & Reliability – Maintain rigorous evaluation frameworks to improve model calibration, accuracy, and long-term stability.
  • Collaborate Across Teams – Partner with trading, commercial, and operations teams to ensure that forecasting solutions align with market strategies and business objectives.
Data Scientist requirements:  
  • Machine Learning & Data Science Expertise – 3+ years of experience developing and deploying real-time machine learning models and data science applications.
  • Power Market Knowledge – Strong understanding of short-term US power markets, including supply-demand dynamics and pricing mechanisms.
  • Optimization & Algorithmic Decision-Making – Experience with mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), CVXPY, or similar optimization tools.
  • Python & Data Science Ecosystem – Proficiency in Python and key libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, and Polars.
  • Software Development Best Practices – Familiarity with version control (Git), software development workflows, and managing dev/test/production environments.
  • Forecasting & Predictive Analytics – Hands-on experience with time-series forecasting, market prediction, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Energy Systems & Market Modeling – Background in power systems modeling, power flow analysis, and security-constrained unit commitment.
  • Cloud & Deployment Technologies – Experience with AWS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and productionizing machine learning models.
  • Data Visualization & Engineering – Knowledge of full-stack, machine learning engineering, data engineering, and visualization tools (Plotly, Dash, Streamlit).
  • Education & Research – Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering) with an advanced degree (MS/PhD) or industry research/publication experience preferred.
